Arts & Culture

This committee organizes assemblies, festivals, performances and more to bring arts and culture to Maugham students. Key events include the Fine Arts Festival and Variety Show. It organizes school-wide heritage and cultural celebrations with decorations, books and other materials.
Fine Arts Festival | May
The halls of our school come alive with art! A staggering number of pieces (close to 1,000 last year) are organized and hung throughout the school. Support arts education and join a fun afternoon of chatting, sorting, and admiring your kid's artwork that collectively will be part of Maugham's school-wide art gallery.
Variety Show | Jan

Does your kid love to perform? The annual Maugham Variety Show is organized by parents for a wonderful night of entertainment showcasing Maugham's talented students. Help organize and decorate the show and support the performers at their rehearsals leading up to the big event!
Book Fair | Dec, Mar

The book fair is one of our best fundraises throughout the year that helps us cover the expenses of all the enriching events the HSA coordinates. This committee helps set up merchandise before the Book Fair begins. They also run the cash register and help children check out. Please express interest in order to be contacted to be an on-site volunteer.
Clubs | Sept, Dec, Mar

Clubs at Maugham are HSA sponsored, after-school enrichment classes (music! sports! theater! art! cooking! animals! science!). If your kid loves after-school clubs and you love not having to worry about your child for an additional hour after school, we need your help. Clubs DO NOT HAPPEN without volunteers and could be canceled if there is not enough support. If you are interested in bringing in a specific type of club to Maugham or love to organize and want to help out remotely, this committee is for you. Volunteers get priority on signing up for Clubs!
Fall/Spring Social | Oct, May

This committee plans two family socials. The October event is a fall-themed weekend afternoon on the playground. The May event is a Family Fun Friday evening event combined with the Fine Arts Festival. The committee organizes food, arts and crafts, outdoor games and activities as well as manages ticket sales. If you love organizing family-friendly parties/events this committee is for you! Please express interest in order to be contacted to be an on-site volunteer.
Field Day | May

Field Day is one of the most exciting events of the year - kids running around the entire play ground, working up a sweat, and competing for first place through all manner of obstacle courses. The music is loud, the energy is high, and there are a lot of thirsty kids! Help provide water, cups and ice pops and cheer your children on! Please express interest in order to be contacted to be an on-site volunteer.

The 5th grade class participates in many special graduation-geared events throughout the year. This committee organizes all these activities and fundraises to support them. The committee chairs act as liaisons between the 5th grade families, HSA and teachers, connecting all the sub-committees (yearbook, fundraising, etc) back to a central place.
International Day | Feb

International Day has been a Maugham School tradition for many years. This is a two-day event. Day 1 is dedicated to an Assembly of cultural performances and a Lunch Buffet related to the host country. Day 2 is the very festive Festival of Tables which includes around 10 different countries. Each country needs volunteers to decorate and create informational (and fun!) tables. Maugham students visit all the tables and learn about cultures around the world. This event is one of the most fun volunteer events with lots of buzz and the opportunity to help the kids have a blast. Please express interest in order to be contacted to be an on-site volunteer.
Maugham Spirit Shop | Throughout the year

This committee is in charge of building school spirit at Maugham through unique and exciting merchandise offerings. Show your school pride by supporting the design and sale of spirit wear your kids are going to love wearing during spirit weeks and beyond. Graphic design or retail backgrounds are beneficial but not required. Interest in promoting spirit is the most important thing!
Read-a-Thon | Feb, Mar

The students and teachers really get into the Read-a-Thon every year! The winning class gets a pizza party and the competition is always fierce, PLUS it promotes tons of reading and raises funds for improvements and enhancements to Maugham School. Last year's funds will be used for upgrades to our Library! The committee is responsible for organizing the event, publicity, prize selection and distribution, and getting everyone excited to READ!
Teacher/Staff Appreciation | Dec, Mar, May

There are 3 main teacher appreciation events throughout the year: during parent/teacher conferences in fall and spring as well as teacher appreciation week in May. This committee coordinates lunches for the teachers/staff during conferences so they can focus on their meetings. During Appreciation Week in May, the committee creates a week of events for the teachers, including a breakfast and luncheons, and coordinates ways the students can show their appreciation every day of that week. They also coordinate the end of year teachers' luncheon and gifts. If you love your teachers and want to show it, this committee is for you!
TEF | June

The Tenafly Education Fund is a non-profit organization that raises funds to support grants requested by Tenafly Public School teachers for innovative programs and projects that further enrich the academic and creative experience in our schools. The Maugham representative attends the TEF meetings, reports back to the Maugham community and drives participation in the annual TEF 5K.

Being new is not easy! This committee plans events to welcome families that are new to Maugham, whether entering at kindergarten or older. If you like hospitality, meeting people and showing them the ropes then this is the committee for you!
